Nursing Students Spearhead Reproductive Health Discourse, Offer Free HIV Testing | The Envergan
A group of third-year nursing students took the lead in conducting a reproductive health discourse for all 26 sections of senior high school learners and freshmen college students every Wednesday of September, from September 3 until September 24.
In an initiative to provide awareness on reproductive health and the risk of acquiring sexually transmitted diseases, the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, under the advice of the university’s health and safety officer and clinical instructor of the department, Ma’am Liza Vallarta, integrated the outreach in the course of Community Health Nursing under the supervision of their respective clinical instructors.
Additionally, a free HIV testing, facilitated by the Rural Health Unit, will be conducted on September 24 from 8 AM to 12 NN at the EMRC. In this initiative, data privacy will be strictly observed and given paramount importance to ensure that all participants receive confidential and respectful care throughout the process.
Topics discussed revolved around the different aspects of reproductive health such as teenage pregnancy, contraceptives, and sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV and AIDS. The student nurses also provided a demonstration of the proper use of condoms and facilitated a question and answer portion.
This activity not only aligned with the course’s objectives to provide health promotion but also delivered enlightenment and awareness to the targeted population, essential for informed decision-making regarding their health.
